Dell XPS Gen 5 Widescreen Laptop

The Dell XPS Gen 5 is Dell’s top-of-the-line gaming and multimedia machine. The featured default clock speeds makes the system fast and dependable for running in a heavily multi-tasking environment or running multi-threaded digital applications. XPS Gen 5 supports a lot of media features like recording TV; authoring and burning DVDs etc. Dell’s Gen 5 is the first system that features the dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition 840 (Pentium EE 840) Processor.

The XPS Gen 5 package includes a 20 inch Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW widescreen LCD monitor with Picture-In-Picture feature, and dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition 840 Processor with Hyper-Threading and 955X Express chipset. The 3.2GHz Pentium Extreme Edition 840 contains two processors on a single chip and each with 1 MB of Level 2 cache and a dedicated pipeline to the 800MHz front side bus. This processor is user-overclockable in BIOS to 3.40GHz and 3.6 GHz. The Gen 5 XPS can be configured with anyone of the Microsoft Windows XP/Media/Professional Editions operating system.

The Gen 5 also features a Dual-TV Tuner and a Remote Control setup which makes it perfect for performing PVR functions e.g. a user can store 150 hours of best quality video with 500GB of storage, and the remote is very useful for accessing all the features of the Media Center. Dell XPS Gen 5 can support up to 3 hard drives i.e. a user can have up to 1.5TB of internal RAID storage.

There is a convenient front flip cover to conceal front I/O ports and drive bays i.e. front panel features a hinged door that folds away to the side to reveal three optical drive bays and a built in floppy drive, whereas a smaller panel hides two USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire port, and two audio jacks. At the back, there are five additional USB 2.0 ports, two FireWire ports, two PS/2 connections, and a Gigabit Ethernet jack. There features 3 chassis fans for cooling purpose and 2 additional fans are dedicated to the power supply.
